Removing preechos from audio recordings
نویسنده
چکیده
In this contribution, a method is described for the attenuation of preecho in audio recordings. Preechos are attenuated replicas of the future signal that can usually be heard in tape or phonograph recordings in silences or near-silences preceding sudden, high amplitude sounds. The method described here is based on a very simple attenuation+delay preecho model. The delay is estimated by use of a modified cross-correlation technique, and the value of the attenuation is obtained by a least-squares estimation. The restoration is carried out in the frequency domain by use of a non-linear spectral subtraction technique very similar to standard noise suppression methods.

Audio Enhancement Using Nonlinear Time-frequency Filtering
Forensic audio recordings may contain undesired noise that can impair source identification, speech recognition, and other audio processing requirements. In this paper several custom analysis/synthesis algorithms are presented based on a time-varying spectral representation of the noisy signal. The enhancement process adapts to the instantaneous signal behavior and alters the noisy signal so th...
متن کاملAutomated method for extracting response latencies of subject vocalizations in event-related fMRI experiments.
For functional magnetic resonance imaging studies of the neural substrates of language, the ability to have subjects performing overt verbal responses while in the scanner environment is important for several reasons. Most directly, overt responses allow the investigator to measure the accuracy and reaction time of the behavior. One problem, however, is that magnetic resonance gradient noise ob...
متن کاملAutomatic Record Reviews
Record reviews provide a unique and focused source of linguistic data that can be related to musical recordings, to provide a basis for computational music understanding systems with applications in similarity, recommendation and classification. We analyze a large testbed of music and a corpus of reviews for each work to uncover patterns and develop mechanisms for removing reviewer bias and ext...
متن کاملDoes the recording medium influence phonetic transcription of cleft palate speech?
BACKGROUND In recent years, analyses of cleft palate speech based on phonetic transcriptions have become common. However, the results vary considerably among different studies. It cannot be excluded that differences in assessment methodology, including the recording medium, influence the results. AIMS To compare phonetic transcriptions from audio and audio/video recordings of cleft palate spe...
متن کاملEstablishing a gold standard for manual cough counting: video versus digital audio recordings
BACKGROUND Manual cough counting is time-consuming and laborious; however it is the standard to which automated cough monitoring devices must be compared. We have compared manual cough counting from video recordings with manual cough counting from digital audio recordings. METHODS We studied 8 patients with chronic cough, overnight in laboratory conditions (diagnoses were 5 asthma, 1 rhinitis...
